Child sexual abuse is a public health issue. The National Centre has partnered with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Knowmore Legal Service to discuss mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse across Australia for General Practitioners, focusing on legislative requirements, best practice and trauma-informed responses to maintain and enhance patient relationships.
The webinar:
- Discusses the prevalence of child sexual abuse within Australia, and how the resources by the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse can strengthen responses.
- Defines the legal obligations and requirements for mandatory reporting across different jurisdictions in Australia.
- Outlines how Primary Health Network programs support General Practice in improving care for victim-survivors of Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence
Primary Health Networks
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing funds 31 Primary Health Networks (PHNs) across Australia, with the primary goals of:
- Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health services for people, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes; and
- Improving the coordination of health services and increasing access and quality support for people.
In each state and territory there is at least one Pilot site supporting primary health care services. The role of the Pilot sites is to:
- Support the primary care sector to recognise and respond to domestic, family, and sexual violence
- Support recovery and healing related to domestic, family and sexual violence as of
