MEDIA RELEASE
Today, on the 7th anniversary of the National Apology to Victims and Survivors of Institutional
Child Sexual Abuse, the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse (National Centre) has
launched Voices for Action.
This new campaign invites victims and survivors of child sexual abuse to share their views. We’re
asking: What action is needed?
Voices for Action provides a secure platform for victims and survivors to make submissions in
whatever way feels right for them, such as artwork, writing, music, video, or other forms.
“This initiative ensures lived experience voices are central to national conversations about
prevention and response,” said Dr Janine Bush, CEO of the National Centre. “Survivors have told us
that real change starts by listening. This platform creates a space for that to happen.”
Submissions will help the National Centre identify key issues and themes to inform future policy
and advocacy, systems reform and sector capability building. With consent, contributions may be
published on the National Centre’s website, social media, or included in reports and resources.
“Lived experience must be core to informing child sexual abuse policy and prevention efforts,” said
Lyn MacLeod, member of the National Centre’s Survivor -Led Adult College.
“Through my lived experience of child sexual abuse, I have interrogated the ‘whys’ and ‘what ifs’
for my whole life and understand the cause and effect of the abuse I was victim to. Amplifying our
voices gives strength and power to shaping the support needed to heal.”
The campaign also lays the foundations for future engagement activities in 2026, ensuring lived
experience expertise continues to shape change.
