Background and Aim
Accessibility of child sexual abuse prevention services and resources across Australia warrants priority attention. A comprehensive understanding of accessibility is needed to investigate barriers and facilitators to prevention uptake. This will allow for strategies to be developed in advance of future prevention policy and implementation, ensuring accessibility for all.
This project will investigate the accessibility of child sexual abuse prevention initiatives for children across Australia, with a focus on regional and remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Methods
This study will conduct a survey to map accessibility across Australia, local case studies to explore accessibility in regional, remote, and First Nations communities, and a facilitated roundtable discussion.
Significance
This project will produce a framework for an accessible child sexual abuse prevention agenda, in addition to new knowledge on the barriers and facilitators to tailored prevention, and a broader framework to guide policy and practice. It is anticipated that these outputs will enhance children’s safety across Australia, while increasing reach and effectiveness of safeguarding policy and practice.
