Child sexual abuse is not a problem of the past, and the risks are intensifying.
The National Strategy Advisory Group (NSAG) is an expert advisory group established to advise on the implementation of the National Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse.
NSAG members – which include the National Centre – have released an open letter calling for urgent, sustained national leadership through the Second Action Plan, backed by substantial, multi-year investment at a scale proportionate to the harm.
The letter highlights what this needs to look like in practice:
- Early, coordinated support when a child discloses abuse, in one safe place.
- Action that keeps pace with escalating online-facilitated abuse and growing harmful sexual behaviours.
- A shift from fragmented responses to coordinated, evidence-informed action that supports recovery across the lifespan.
For families, this investment means something very practical. When a child discloses abuse, they should be supported early, in one safe place, without being passed from service to service.
