Understanding and responding to disclosures of child sexual abuse from children and young people
This course explores how children and young people disclose experiences of child sexual abuse. You will learn about the factors that influence disclosure, develop skills to respond with compassion and understand the role of workers and organisations in creating a safe and supportive environment.
Learning objectives:
1. To equip learners with an understanding of disclosures of child sexual abuse including how, why, and to whom children and young people disclose, as well as the potential consequences of disclosing.
2. Identify the barriers that prevent children and young people from disclosing and understand what helps children and young people to feel safe to disclose.
3. Learn how to provide compassionate responses to disclosures of child sexual abuse, understand available support for victims and survivors, and recognise the role of workers and organisations.
