“There is no satisfactory understanding at any level of government or mental health services or clinicians or policy iterations that child sexual abuse has lifelong effects. The personality, trauma, behavioural, emotional, relationship and other impacts do not simply go away. They persist. They are often repressed for decades. We know that, but when they resurface, we don’t recognise them and we accuse people of fabricating and lying.”
